What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Audience feedback is key in knowing whether the product is good or not and also it allows the audience to have a impact on the finale music video. Also, in acquiring feedback, it reveals whether the video was up to the standard that the target audience expected it to be at. As a team, we ensured that we recieved varied feedback so that we could make the correct and crucial changes for our final cut and digipack which thus would appeal to the audience we aimed it at.
Our first rough cut audience feedback with the class illustrated the struggle and confusion we had as a team in producing a indie pop video that had all the correct conventions. Although we only had the scenes of the woods in the first rough cut, it still produced the correct feedback we needed in order to make the video better and create a sense of progression throughout the video. Questions such as "what is the next scene?" and "How is this woods scene linked to the music video and to the overall genre?" made us as a group have to make changes to the storyboard etc.



After producing the second rough cut with more clips, the video started to become more realistic and once compared with professional music videos, simple conventions we were missing, an example being the title of the song at the beginning of the song which revealed we still needed to work a lot more to further improve the music video. Receiving feedback at this point was important to know all the corrections we made were relevant and correct to our target audience, however we needed more time to film so we decieded to make changes after the final cut feedback which turned out really well.

In acquiring the final cut feedback, we used three methods inorder to gain feedback from a wide range of people. Firstly, our teacher had organised a group viewing in which the other media students would show their own videos and we would all recieve collective feedback on a sheet of paper. Having this allowed comments from students who are aware of all the conventions that are expected to be in a music video, thus the information was important and realiable in making our post production better. Ultimately, as a group we were interested in reading the feedback from our teacher as it would be cristism that wouldnt be bias. However, the feedback didn't come back with much negatives which as a whole was a good thing.


The second form of feedback we used was posting the links on social networks etc. which didnt just limit comments from the actual target audience but from family and friends. Posting the video on facebook seemed to get alot of positive responses and support from the social base which is expected. However, similiarly on twitter, the same outcome occured which overall reassured us as a team that the video meets the require conventions to those who do not have a depth understanding in media. This point is key as if those who do not understand media but can still pick out errors would mean the video needs to corrected urgently. An example being the continuity editing of the character walking left and then suddenly right out of no where.
The third way we gained feedback was filming the audience watch the video for intial and immediate reactions to video effects and shots that they may have been shocked by or may not have liked at all. This was from a wide range of the audience i.e. from the specific target audience of indie pop to a random group of people. Doing this allows a varied response and crtique once again on the music video to ultimately make the video better.
After recieving feedback, we came as a group and watched the video again to see if the comments were correct and to make the changes required. The first major change we made were the woods scenes. We knew it would be too dark originally due to the first colour grading effect we made on premier pro. The colour wheel had more greens and a high contrast as seen below. Left to this are images of the original scenes of the wood scenes which are dark in comparison to the changes that we made after the comments. As the genre and overall feel of the music video was meant to be dark and meleachonic the whole dull and low lighting of the scenes felt appropriate to accompany the main character.
Responses to Feedback


After reading the comments on the lighting outside, we decieded to come up with at least 5 different colour corrections that would be best suited for the scene. Doing this also improved the skills development of us individually and was something extra to add to the skills development page.
The second feedback most common feedback we recieved was the clarity of the actor walking in a low lit shot. In the group viewing, the reactions of the students illustrated that they had to strain to know what they were watching. On the right is a improved shot of the shoes clip with an increased brightness and less contrasts which when watched with the overall music video, still works effectively.
The third and final main feedback we recieved were the scenes not being varied enough which was fair as it felt that the music video begun instantly in a garage with the main character lit. In response to the comment, on the left is a clip of the new scenery with the main character filmed from the back at a long shot and then to a close up. Doing this allowed the main character to be introduced slowly and we believe it worked well in adding to the mysteriousity of what we were trying to achieve.
In deciding the final logo for our production, we created a sheet of all the logos we liked which we could then hand out to our target audience. Having the sheet printed out acted as physical evidence, however we also created an online questionaire for users online to fill out on which they believed suited best to be on the posters etc. On the left is the physical questionaire that was printed out, however it is tallyed neatly to clarify clearly that number 6 won the best logo. The target audience stated "number 6 was clear andt the design features i.e. the lines and banner worked well in not only displaying clearly the band but also added around the text too". Number 4 had a similar response, however since there was colour it could clash with the magazine advert etc.
