TWO TYPES OF MUSIC LABELS
The provider for all the requirements needed to promote and market the artist are the physical & digital retailers. They distribute and manufacture record labels
Record labels use 'intertexual' methods to positively exploit their artist.
Examples of this is featuring the artist's songs in movies or adverts.
Sony Music Entertainment
Sony Music Entertainment (the oligoploy) are in many industries ranging from music to even home appliances. Also, they develop products in gaming and even technology. There are around 14 different records the Sony (the umbrella group) which is why SME has become one of the most known major record label compared to the rest.
SME consists of record labels such as:
RocNation
Epic Records
Verity Recors
Sony Music Entertainment establishes their identity by working together with smaller record labels to create different activities which is thus benificial to the companies and the record labels.
History:
- Established in 1929
- Taken over by CBS in 2004 (columbia Broadcasting System) part of the 'Big Three' labels.
- Profit as of 2012 is $6 Billion
