SONG CHOICE DEVELOPMENT
Choosing our song for our music video proved to be a difficult decision in the development of our choice. Choosing the right song for our music video was key as the song in the video really determines the genre and style of the video that we will film. For these reasons we needed to choose a song we were all passionate about that we felt we could use to create a really good, professional music video out of. Liking the song also massively helps as it motivated us to do our best work, also we didn't want to choose a iconic mainstream song that everyone has heard of and seen the video too because this would be too easy to follow and simple for viewers to understand. We wanted to find a song and take our own spin on it to produce something new and creative of our own.
Straight away we decided to move away from the idea of hip-hop and RnB as we felt these choices would be commonly stereotyped from conventional videos of today. This also wasn't our greatest strength as we do not listen to this music enough.
Eventually after thinking of song choices we knew we started throwing songs we thought were suitable to the table. One of us came up with 'Bastille- Pompeii' which we really liked the idea of and thought we could make a good video from. Another song that was suggested was 'Thirty Seconds To Mars- Up In The Air' which was a really interesting song but we had to cancel that one out due to the lack of ideas we had to link to the storyline of the song. Another song we came up with but had to rule out was 'Chase and Status- Lost & Not Found' simply because of the lack of lyrics in the song and this would of prevented us from doing a performance side of the video which we wanted to do.
After contemplating all these song choices we were pretty much decided that we were going to go with 'Bastille- Pompeii' however one day we were researching into music videos and came across the song of 'One Republic- Stop and Stare' which we loved as a group and this totally changed our minds instantly as we felt drawn to the lyrics of the song and thought we could make a really good video for this song. We discussed the pros and cons for each video and at the end we were clearly decided upon 'One Republic- Stop and Stare'.
