CONSTRUCTION SCREEN GRABS

DIGIPAK FRONT

By Me

Firstly we started of with the original picture of josh's hand already in position to be holding a glass ball as this was our idea on our flat plan

Secondly we put the picture of the clouds I took behind the layer of the hand for the background of our composition, boosting the contrast and changing the hue/saturation to get a turqoise blue.

Next Josh made the glassball from a tutorial he followed on Youtube as you can see below how he made it. This was added with shadow around the edges to made it seem as if light was reflecting off of it using the brush tool.

We then added a dark shadow to the bottom of the front cover as we wanted to put a logo in the bottom right hand corner but it wouldn't of stood out if it was just the clouds background. So to do this we took the brush tool and lightly brushed a shadow around the hand.

Next we added the picture I took of the tree near where I live and when we imported it into the document it still had its rectangle from the picture so we took the eraser tool and rubbed out around the edges of the glass ball to make it appear as if the tree is inside it.

We then added some bird sillouhettes that we got from this website (WIX) as a shape and used one of them twice but at a different angle and size. We felt the sky was a bit empty and we came up with the idea of having some birds to add to the idea of the album "dreaming out loud" all associating with nature and dreaming.

For the back, we started off with a background I had previously made on photoshop before for piece of work that involved photoshop manipluation and a title sequence. I decided to use this as the background as I thought the scratchy effect could symbolise dreams flowing through the brain as sort of brainwaves. I made this originally using a plain background and then downloading brushes from google I downloaded a scratch tool brush to which i then used to create an effect as if it looks like someone has stratched all over the piece. I ensured we depicted the colours from the front cover to keep the house style of the album so when importing the original which was much darker and less saturated, I brang in the turqoise colours using the hue/saturation and colouer balance.

We then put the featured songs on the album on the back in a middle aligned formation as we felt this would look more visually asthetic. We also put other small text details on such as the long paragraph at the bottom about copyright procedures and rules. And finally we put on where the album came from, the producers and any other companies or people credited in the album. We ensured to use the same font to keep a consistent house style throughout, but making some texts larger than others to stand out more as more important.

We then put some visuals on the back such as record label logos and conventional features we discovered most albums have when researching digipak albums.

Next we put a black rectangle down the bottom for a nice visual touch that we thought looked better than having it plain. We turned the opacity down to ensure it was not to dominating over every other feature on there. We also put a barcode and the websites of "one republic" and record labels.

DIGIPAK MIDDLE

For the middle this was fairly straight forward as it was just a combination of two images and one piece of text. We started out with the closeup I took of a tree to get a nice textured background but relating to the front cover still with the tree element. We then played around with the hue/saturation and colour balance to get the turqoise blue we had on the front cover using the colour picker to identify this.

We then put the picture we took of Josh's face ontop of the tree bark layer and turned the opacity down of his face to bring throug the background and make it appear as if the texture of the bark is on his face. We wanted to give the impression that Josh was dreaming so we when took the photo we had him lay down and we took the photo from right under his chin with his eyes closed.

Lastly we put the title in the centre of the piece to make it stand out as being bold, we also kept to the house style again by using the font "Copperplate". Some of the fonts such as the title on the front cover, we had to download off of a website called "DaFont" as they are more effective in terms of visuals.

Last to put on was the text and we used two different fonts for each text to establish the difference in meaning between the two, one is the band and the other is the name of the album.

The strip for the album was the easiest and quickest out of the total as we wanted to keep it basic and as it is a different size with limited space this would have been hard to do regardless. We started with the same picture we used for the clouds in the front cover but we rotated it 90 degrees clockwise to match the direction of the strip.

We then put the birds from the front cover to follow the house style of the album again and only used one type of bird this time as we didn't want to over complicate things.

DIGIPAK STRIP

Magazine Advert Construction

The construction of our magazine advert was very straight forward as we wanted to keep to the house style of the album and follow the same look as the front cover of the digipak. In doing this we took the same background and the glass ball and instead of putting the tree we decided to change it up a bit and put the "dreaming out loud" font in there along with our featured song on the album "stop and stare".  After this, It was then a case of just putting text on including special features and important information about the album to draw the reader in. We then finally put twitter, facebook and instagram logos to extend the brand awareness of the album to readers and viewers.

To start the CD we found a plain blank CD template off of google and downloaded it into photoshop. We then created a faint pattern on the CD as it was too plain just white. We went on "Difference Clouds" on a new layer and then rubbed out any excess we didn't want with the eraser. We then turned the cyan on the colour balance chart up to get a hint of turqoise on there.

Next we starting typing the copyright text and information that goes around the outside of the CD using the type tool and then setting the bend of it to +100. Then we copied it and pasted it and flipped it vertically to place it all the way round.

Lastly we finished it by putting some text on and some logos including one republics logo, record label logos and website details.

Next we added the photo i took of my dad acting as the man we wanted featured on the front cover. We felt the hand needed something on it and we made it appear as if the man is walking into the glass ball where you can see distant houses. We made a shadow to make it seem more realistic by copying the photo and flipping it vertically, we then went to colour balance and selected montone to make it black and white and then changed the opacity down to 40%.

Finally we simply added the text in the clouds and we got this text from a website called Da Font as we wanted a font that was interesting and visually asthetic which photoshop lacked in default fonts. So we downloaded this and imported it into photoshop to use it was called "Across the road".
